County rodeo entries now open

Local entries taken through Wednesday — The entry books for the Owyhee County Rodeo open next week.
Entries for the local events will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and they’ll be open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. next Wednesday.
The rodeo will be held Aug. 11-13 with the championship short-go set for Saturday, Aug. 14 in Homedale.
All local entries and non-card holder entries are cash only. Call rodeo secretary Ilene Canning at 459-2055 to enter.
Local events include mutton busting for ages 5-7 and 55 pounds or less, steer riding for ages 10-14, ranch bronc riding, Owyhee County team roping, the wild horse race and Calgary-style wild cow milking.
In the county team roping, eligible duos can’t be over a #3 and one member must be from Owyhee County Jordan Valley or attend an Owyhee County school.
Prizes include $2,000 added and a custom Frank Maher Memorial buckle to the ranch bronc riding champion; a buckle plus purse money for mutton busting; a custom buckle in the county team roping; $500 added in the wild horse race, which takes place Friday, Aug. 13; and $250 added for the wild cow milking on Saturday, Aug. 14.
Canning says entries come from Nevada, Washington, Oregon and Idaho for the rodeo.
The Idaho Cowboys Association entries will be taken from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday with a call-back between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. next Wednesday. The ICA entry phone is (208) 366-2326. Entries also can be made by fax at (208) 366-7967.
