Crane sweeps Adrian in basketball

Thursday girls: Crane 50, Adrian 40 — Ranked fourth in the latest 1A Oregon coaches poll, the Mustangs outscored the No. 5 Antelopes, 31-14, in the second half to collect a crucial 1A High Desert League victory in Crane.
Crane (17-1 overall) handed Adrian its first league loss of the season 12 days after the Antelopes had edged Crane, 39-37, at home.
Adrian (15-5) used a strong first quarter to build a 26-19 halftime lead Thursday, but fell victim to inequitable foul-shooting statistics.
Crane free-throw shooters visited the line 23 times, converting 13 (56.5 percent). The Antelopes were 7-for-16 (43.8).
Natalie Bentz scored 14 points before fouling out for Crane. Teammates September O'Crowley and Hannah Buermann scored 11 points each.
Adrian was paced by 14 points and nine rebounds from Swiss exchange student Letizia Bordoli. Andrea Shenk added 11 points and 10 boards before picking up her fifth foul.
Thursday boys: Crane 61, Adrian 27 — The host Mustangs dominated throughout in a lopsided 1A HDL victory.
Crane held a 19-point lead at halftime, 31-12, and extended the margin to 48-20 by the end of the third quarter.
Blake Purnell scored 10 points to pace the Antelopes.
Ten players scored for Crane, including Jeran Conaway, who had a game-high 16 points.
