Avalanche columnist coming to Murphy

Syndicated columnist Baxter Black is bringing his Western humor and poetry to Owyhee County.
Black, whose On the Edge of Common Sense column appears weekly in The Owyhee Avalanche, has been booked for an appearance in Murphy on June 4 on the eve of the 41st annual Outpost Days.
Owyhee County Historical Museum director Thom Couch announced Black’s show as a kickoff event for the Owyhee County Historical Society’s two-day event.
A former large animal veterinarian, Black used to work in Owyhee country.
“He’d really like to come back,” Couch said. “He was very generous in putting this together. It’s a special deal for us because of his love of Owyhee County.”
Tickets are $30 each, and a limited number will be sold. Black will appear outdoors on the train depot stage at 6 p.m. Ticket reservations can be made by calling the museum at (208) 495-2319.
Couch said the OCHS also will seek sponsorships to help offset the expense of bringing Black to the county. A meet-and-greet one hour prior to Black’s appearance is planned for sponsors, and will be held in McKeeth Hall, Couch said.
Sponsorship opportunities will range in price from $250 to $1,000.
Outpost Days will run June 5-6 at the museum complex in Murphy.
