Homedale boys eliminate Filer

The Homedale boys basketballers posted an 81-73 win over Filer on Friday afternoon to move on to the 3A State consolation championship against Fruitland on Saturday at Meridian High School at 9:15 a.m.
The Trojans' season-high point output sets up the team’s fourth meeting with Fruitland this season, and comes less than two weeks after Fruitland (17-7) held off the Trojans (14-11) for the District III crown.
Homedale’s Friday win was spearheaded by Walter Almaraz, who led the side with 25 points, including four three-pointers and a sterling 11-for-11 in appearances at the foul line. Homedale was 26-for-31 from the free-throw line and lobbed a total of nine three-point field goals.
Filer’s top scorer was Bryce Beard, who had a game-leading 30 points, going 10-for-18 from the field and 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.
